East Coast art studios is a large 122 mtr sq space 5 minutes walk from Bray Dart Station. It is the most advanced studio of its kind in Ireland drawing on the European tradition of a practicing artist transferring the skill of painting and drawing by direct demonstration to students.
We host daytime and evening workshops & courses for all skill levels that can be taken intensively if visiting Ireland from abroad, or over a longer period if you live in Dublin or along the east coast of Ireland. Class times are designed to suit varying timetables of students and professionals. So you can book a small or large number of classes and come as often as you want every Tuesday evening, Wednesday and Saturday throughout the year. The classes work in an incremental manner and are individual to each clients' progress and artistic interests. You can book three hour or full day (six hour) classes as many times per week as suits your schedule. In addition you can also book the many set courses we run during the year in painting and drawing.
If you have any questions you can ask us here on our contact page or call us on 0851347071 and we would be happy to help you. In general we advise beginning students to do the foundation course or one of our 4 day courses and then after this continue to study with us and focus on the area you find is most interesting to you. The teaching philosophy of East Coast Art Studios is to draw on the techniques and methods of all art periods to inform present art practice. Our mission is to help students develop their personal abilities and style quickly and to a high level of competence. Students learn to analyze the work of the artists they admire and implement these techniques in their own practice. Study watercolor, illustration and beautiful techniques in oil painting, such as alla prima, glazing and sfumato. Learn the methods employed by Da Vinci, Goya, Egon Schiele and Gustav Klimt to paint flesh, or how to glaze over a grisaille figure like Ribera and Velazquez. For landscapes, study the work of Monet, Turner and the Russian painter Isaac Levitan. Those interested in contemporary work can learn from the drawing and painting techniques of Jenny Saville, Lucian Freud and Marlene Dumas, or the abstract techniques of Rothko , Diebenkorn and Agnes Martin. People can also take advantage of our monthly museum visits, where we learn to analyze paintings "in the flesh", the layers of paint and how they were created.
Our courses work on a modular basis and reinforce one another. Understanding and applying the different styles you learn in these modules will ensure the development of each student’s techniques and individual artistic style.
CONTINUING TO STUDY IN EAST COAST ART STUDIOS
When you complete this initial workshop we would advise clients to do another course and hone in on the areas that started to interest you. Clients can also book the Evening Classes or the Daytime Classes on Wednesdays & Saturdays. In these sessions, you can develop your practice throughout the year and focus on whatever subjects and techniques are of interest to you, either in contemporary or classical painting and drawing. We also recommend you do the drawing course as drawing underpins all painting.
