Course Overview
This is one of our most popular options with both regular students and beginners who want to start or continue their artistic journey at their own pace. Join anytime throughout the year and study in the studio in a flexible, supportive environment with professional tuition and demonstrations by Eoin Llewellyn in the individual areas you wish to explore. This booking includes 12 hoursof studio time, which you can schedule across Wednesdays and/or Saturdays over any 4-week period. You choose your own dates at the time of booking. Students can work in drawing and/or oil painting, focusing on portraiture, figure, landscape, or personal projects. Instruction is fully tailored to your level — whether you are a complete beginner learning fundamentals or an advanced student refining technique and developing a personal style.
Booking Times
You may choose one of the following options to make up your 12 hours:
· 2 x full day sessions (10am–4pm)
· 1 x full day (10am–4pm) and 2 x 3-hour morning sessions (10am–1pm)
Conditions of Booking
· All sessions must be completed within any 4-week period
· All chosen dates must be provided at the time of booking we will confirm your sessions within 24hours ! Call us if you want to know if their is availability before booking. 0852347071 . Usually 2 weeks in advance is fine!
· If you are new, your first session must be a full day (10am–4pm)
Continuing to Study at East Coast Art Studios
After completing this initial set of classes, most students simply rebook more Daytime or Evening Classes. This is the main way our students continue studying with us all year round - you come and go as suits your schedule.

Intensive art course 1

Conditions of Booking - Please indicate your start date and give us all 8 dates or 4 dates to start. Your 1-1 can take place on a Monday or Tuesday 1-4pm please indicate your preferred date for this also in box provided below.
The package includes:

2 Month Intensive
For individuals who wish to commit to intensive study over a longer-period of time, we offer 1, 2 or 3-month terms that include personal consultation sessions, group classes and museum visits. The 2 month package includes:
- 2 x 1-to-1 sessions (3 hours each)
- 7 x Wed group painting/drawing session
- 7 x Sat group painting/drawing session
- 5 canvas included - 2 - 30x 40cm 2 - 40x50cm 1 x 60x80cm
- materials included - Brush set and medium and soap and 1 x drawing Set
- intensive students are provided paint for their first few lessons but do need to purchase a set of specific colors in the first 2 weeks for personal use and home practice.

Foundations of Drawing offers an exciting introduction to both drawing and to East Coast Art Studio's philosophy to learning art. Through the close study and appreciation of drawing techniques of artists such as Michelangelo, Egon Schiele, Degas, Watteau, Käthe Kollwitz, Picasso, Giacometti and Marlene Dumas, we come to understand a hidden language. This language is the mystery of drawing, not academic drawing, but a line that can be harnessed to infuse an emotive reality in one’s work.
The study of drawing involves exploring line, weight, pressure, focus, depth and temperature. We emulate the surface qualities of excellent drawing from the breadth of art’s history. Foundations of Drawing starts you on this journey of discovery from the halls of art history: with practice this can lead you to your own personal style.
In the first of two full day sessions, students receive live demonstrations of technique and then do a study of a Bargue plates to understand how to break shape down to straight lines, they will then study a curved line approach to form and to learn how to create diffused value systems.
You will work from both plates and our selection of sculptures. In the next 2 sessions students undertake a study of a Degas and Ingres figurative drawing in both pencil and pitt pastel on special papers. In session 5,6 students practice a study of a John Singer Sargent portrait and a contemporary portrait. In the final 2 sessions students create their own drawings based upon the techniques they find most interesting and we also set a plan for your continued study both in the studio and at home.
Past students have found this course very rewarding and appreciated having an environment in which they learned quickly and in a relaxed way. This programme sets a great foundation for both home study and continued practice in the East Coast Art Studios
If you are mid to advanced level we will develop you in the areas you wish to improve and explore. You direct where you would like your teaching to go and the techniques or vision you would like to understand better. We have a large library of books and references to study from and you can develop your skills to a high level in the figure, portraiture, landscape and abstraction.
You can also undertake this course by booking our Weekly Classes and do 2 dates at a time each month costing only 140 euro. But if you wish to have a more immersive experience (and avail of the 40 euro discount) , we advise the intensive 8 day course over 4 to 6 weeks.
CONTINUING TO STUDY IN EAST COAST ART STUDIOS
When you complete this initial course we would advice to do the INTENSIVE COURSE and study drawing & painting and you also have the option of our
NIGHT CLASSES or the DAYTIME CLASSES studio classes Wednesdays & Saturdays. In these sessions, you can develop your practice throughout the year and focus on whatever subjects and techniques are of interest to you, either in contemporary or classical painting and drawing.

Course Overview
Build confidence, technical skill, and personal expression in this immersive introduction to oil painting. Working in our large French-style atelier, you will learn the fundamentals of oil painting, from preparing a canvas and setting up a palette to understanding brushwork, colour mixing, and classical painting processes. Students will study both classical and contemporary approaches to painting, using our extensive studio library to take inspiration from artists such as Goya, Velázquez, Sargent, Monet, Picasso, Lucian Freud, Jenny Saville, Egon Schiele, Francis Bacon, Marlene Dumas and Peter Doig. Students can work in portraiture, landscape, or the figure, and are encouraged to develop a personal direction, including working from their own drawings and reference images.
For artists with some experience the course is simply adjusted to the level you are at and what you wish to achieve. So all levels can use this course simply email the studio with images of your work and the artists you wish to emulate and understand.
Over 8 full days, you’ll progress through structured studies and guided practice in some of the following areas . The areas you are taught depend on your skill level:
- Introduction & Materials Demonstration – learn how to prepare a canvas, set up a classical palette, understand different brush types and their uses
- Underpainting & Grisaille – explore classical underpainting methods, sketching in paint, tonal block-ins, and grisaille painting to build strong structure, light, and form before colour
- Introduction to Colour & Limited Palettes – learn colour mixing, temperature control and harmony using an Old Master limited palette
- Painting Techniques – create studies inspired by artists such as Sargent, Velázquez, Monet or Freud while learning about edge quality, transitions, wet-on-wet and glazing
- Personal Project – develop a painting based on your own interests (abstraction, portrait, figure, landscape), integrating the techniques learned, with individual feedback and guidance for continued study

You will recieve direct training from Eoin Llewellyn in Painting and drawing in the area you wish to explore.
Work in a collective atmosphere while exploring individual artistic goals and interests. Clients use these classes to gradually increase their knowledge in a given area, create portfolio of work etc Book as often as you want throughout the year! The Monday classes will be ongoing all year round so you can continue to develop at your own pace in Portraiture, Landscapes, the figure and abstraction.
This booking is valid for any Monday evenings only over the Winter Term - 7 x classes -Nov 2 - Dec 14
These bookings are non transferable, refundable and cannot be taken on other studio days. Mondays and Tuesday Evenings are separate bookings.

Teenage Art Classes
East Coast Art Studios is delighted to offer a new series of art classes designed specifically for teens aged 12-17. This series is the most advanced of its kind in Ireland, giving teenagers the opportunity to study classical and contemporary painting and drawing techniques in a professional studio setting under the guidance of practicing artist Eoin Llewellyn. East Coast Art Studios provides a welcoming environment for teenagers to explore and build confidence in their creative ability. Courses are suitable for every level and are designed with appropriate class sizes and content.
Course Content
You will study classical and contemporary drawing and oil painting techniques, designed to help you grow in creative confidence and, if applicable, build a portfolio for further study. You will explore a range of subject matter including portraiture, landscape, still life and abstraction. (In keeping with our policies ensuring the protection of children in education, no nude reference material will be used and all figure drawing will only be from photos or paintings of the clothed figure).
Course Outcomes
Through completing this course you will:
- Master a range of drawing techniques by using Bargue plates and the studio’s plaster casts to explore composition, line, form and perspective
- Explore under-painting and grisaille oil painting techniques
- Understand the principles of colour theory, value, temperature, mixing and application through use of the limited modern palette
- Develop a body of sketches and completed artworks
- Grow in creative confidence and ability
- For students 16+, you can begin to prepare a portfolio for further study
Conditions of Booking
All bookings are considered final and non transferable. If the original child can not attend course you can have a different child complete the course but we would not be involved in this you would simply send the new name. Classes are limited and each student will recieve their own professional easel and glass painting station no different to the set up adults recieve.

Continuing to Study at East Coast Art Studios
After completing this initial set of classes, most students simply rebook another term with us and we can progress your development from your last term. This is the main way our students continue studying with us all year round - you can complete 4 terms in 2026 and do more in 2027!
